Forest Area, hard roads
There are several ways of approaching the cache. I parked at 55 06.904 2 56.981 a forest entry gate and walked along the forest road to Elibank Castle ruins as I wanted to make a return visit to cache "Muckle Mou'ed Meg". From just past the acces stile to the Castle I turned up the slope through the trees and ferns for 90 metres to another forest road. This road leads past the cache and comes back to the tarmac about 170 metres from the parking area giving a round trip of 4.5Km. For an alternative entrance park at 55 37.527 2 52.505, another fores entrance, walk up the forest road(which appears to be going in the wrong direction) for about 330metres when it tees off East. Follow this tee and you will soon find yourself above the Castle on the road to the cache. This route is suitable for buggies and gives a return distance of 5.5Km.
If you are interested in the story of Muckle Mou'ed Meg put the name into Google and you will get an interesting tale. A statue of MMM and her husband Willie Scott, carved from a single tree trunk can be seen at the forestry picnic site on the north side of the Tweed opposite the Castle.
