Geocache Description:

Welcome to the North Vancouver Public Art Geocache experience, brought to you by the North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission! Through the delivery of cultural services initiatives, including a renowned public art program, we respond to and reflect upon the diversity and creative spirit of this community. We are pleased to be able to show you some wonderful examples of the public art. You will find that each one has a unique story to tell.

There's a lot of art to see here in Jack Loucks Court so please take some time to explore the area.

Time Keepers - Elizabeth Roy, 2001
The six figures on the stairway represent local residents, each sharing their fond memories of days gone by.

Watermark - Jill Anholt, 2001
Watermark illustrates the interaction of time and water; of nature and man-made elements. Run-off water is captured in colourfully tiled basins and can be released or left to flow into a man-made stream.

Through the Looking Glass - Nancy Chew & Jacquine Metz, 2001
A seed pod of monumental proportion, a boulder split to reveal an oversized fossil, and a plaza shaped, textured and coloured like a fallen leaf are found in the courtyard.

Streams of Consciousness - Katherine Kerr, 2001
A bridge spans a small pond and stream becoming a metaphor for connections with the past and future and a reflection on natural resources and the industries that have built North Vancouver.

Snakes and Ladders - Todd Spicer, 2001
Walk down the backs of snakes. Climb up the rungs of ladders. When you visit this location, see if you can find all 7 snakes and all 5 ladders.

Olympic Banners - Blake Williams, 2005 (Created to promote the 2010 winter Olympics, these banners were retired after the games).

Across the road you can find:

InVisible - Karen Ireland & NS Women's Centre members, 2003
Images etched into the stairwell windows raise awareness of violence against women and their experience during the healing process.

Time Sequence - Peter Pierobon, 2005
This fountain design relates to the nature of the universe through the history of log jams and the instruments used by astronomers and physicists. Medallions on the upper faces of the building illustrate phases of the lunar cycle.

If you head northwest up the winding pathway you will find:

Voyage - Jacqueline Metz and Nancy Chew
Voyage refers to the nearby industrial past and reminds that the water is nearby. The metal sphere contains references to an astrolab, a globe criss-crossed by lines of travel, or perhaps a child's toy. Suspended within the sphere is an iconic copper vessel, poised in space, charting a path of discovery.

If you head northeast up the straighter pathway you will find:

Nebula Garden - Claudia Cuesta & Bill Baker
Nebula Garden is a series of formless liquid masses that shift and change with atmospheric conditions. The colours diffuse and move as they juxtapose in relationship to one another. Like music, this garden of the cosmos is always the same, yet constantly changing when reinterpreted by light and the passing seasons. Nebula Garden expresses the relationship between the cosmos and nature as a galactic-terrestrial garden. The artwork as a whole is envisioned to create an emotional response of peace, wonder and celebration of the universe and the natural world. Like frozen music, each panel will have its own distinct note. The hard edges of the urban cityscape are softened and muted by this flowing form.

GPS can be tricky in this area; consider the location approximate. The cache can be found by one of the art pieces, mentioned in the hint. The container is a small camoflaged cylinder, concealed where none should see it. This can be a popular area and muggles regularly use these paths, so don't go for the cache if the place is too busy - use stealth!

You can always have a quick look at the art while you are waiting for a quieter moment. Take some photos, post your comments and don't forget to mention what you think is your favourite piece in this geocache location.

As always have a great geocache time and I hope you have a chance to visit the other public art locations around the North Shore.
