Welcome to the bustling township of Ayr - part of the "Bountiful
Burdekin" - a real "sugar" town with the longest bridge of its kind
in Australia.
Did you also know that it is also a place of art, history and
culture? Discover this for yourself on this short Civic Tour of
some points of interest near the CBD.
On your tour, you will need to collect the answers to various
questions and then at the end, use these answers to calculate the
GZ - handily located in a place where the travelling tourist can
get back on their way quickly. Note: using the GPS at WP2 and WP3
is a little challenging but do-able - otherwise hints are available
if the GPS will not settle enough.
At the listed coordinates (WP1), you will discover
the outdoor entertainment plaza area of the beautiful Burdekin
Theatre and Complex which is the home of arts & entertainment
in the Burdekin region.
It is also home to the wonderful "Living Lagoon" water sculpture -
well worth enjoying and exploring.
As you explore this plaza area, you will need to be on the lookout
and reading plaques to find the answers to three questions.
A = Number of letters in the first name of the local hero
who died on April 7 1989?
(plaque on the small obelisk)
B = The last digit of the year when a large number of
people tragically lost their lives?
(plaque on the left of the Circular Mural)
C = Number of letters in the missing word - "The time
capsule is made from a ? cylinder"
(plaque on Gallipoli Memorial Fountain)
Near WP2, you will find the Zenith-Zap metal mosaic -
two circular discs set in the pavement. Read the nearby plaque to
understand how they work - very interesting!
D = Number of letters in the type of flower celebrated in
this mosaic?
Near WP3, you will discover a very interesting
sculpture with the inscription - "a colourful array of molecules of
which we are made".
E = Number of letters in the first name of the sculptor?
Near WP4, you will explore Anzac Park - a lovely
large park with mature trees and an excellent children's
playground. And of course it celebrates the local connection to
Australia's freedom and military history. There is a white,
three-panelled wall, with three circular plaques for the three
services. Directly below these three plaques is a great four word
phrase written in large brass letters.
F = Number of letters in the second word?
G = Number of letters in the fourth word?
Calculate GZ
S19 34.(D)(E-A)(G-C) E147 23.(F+B+B)(D-E)(G-D)
GZ Coordinate Checksums: South 23, East 31
At the GZ, it should be a very easy find - still, you will need to
be stealthy. Hope you enjoyed this little tour and learned a little
more about Ayr.
Credits: HDSpringer et al assisted me with the setup of this
cache, and will maintain this cache on my behalf as it is has been
many many years since I lived in Ayr. HDSpringer will also log a
find after the First Finder.
Unfortunately due to being muggled, HDSpringer had to replace the
1.2 litre black container with a small green plastic micro. (thanks
Mum)
