Geocache Description:

You will be looking for a large ammo can filled with nice goodies and a log book. There is a special FTF prize in the red box, an unactivated FTF geocoin.

Ever seen a ferris wheel on top of a mountain? By the time you finish this cache, you will.

*Sorry to say, but some very nice and informative cachers emailed me to say that the old ferris wheel has been dismantled. I am blessed to have seen it before it was taken down.
Dewey Lake Overlook was the destination of the once grand sky lift at Jenny Wiley State Park. The remains of the attraction are still present on top of SugarCamp Mountain, but are now only reachable by foot power as the attraction was closed some number of years ago.
I was researching the JWT online a few months ago and ran across several pictures of this area, and I knew I had to visit, and once I visited, I knew there had to be a cache here.
There are awesome rock formations to explore, and the view from the overlook is breathtaking. On my trip up to place the cache, I was intercepted near the top of the mountain by a large flock of wild turkey! The possiblity of seeing deer, elk, and any number of wild life is great. There have even been some recently reported bear sightings in the local area. If possible, please take plenty of pictures and share with your log online.

The cache is located along a part of the Jenny Wiley Trail (JWT) system. This particular part of the JWT can be hazardous when the trail is wet, as there are plenty of mossy rocks and steep grades along the trail. The first half of this trail is pretty much UP, but once you reach the top of mountain, it's smooth sailing, and you will be rewarded with some of the best landscapes one could ask for this part of Kentucky.
I am rating this cache 3.5 stars for terrain, because there are some steep areas on the trail, and it is aprroximately a 2 mile round trip to the cache and back. I recommend wearing proper foot gear, and taking some water to drink along the way. Actually, it is so pleasent, pack a lunch to enjoy while at the overlook! Please NO BUSHWHACKING of any sort, please follow and stay on the trail :)
The coordinates for the trailhead are listed below. There is a large picnic shelter located at the trail head. Even though the cache is some distance away, you may encounter a few muggles along the trail.

Special permission was given to me to place this cache by JWSP Recreational Naturalist, Mr. Trinity Shepherd. I would like to extend a special thanks to him and to Park Ranger Coleman for thier assistance. If you happen to meet them, be sure to thank them!

Please follow all trail rules which include; no carving or damaging of rock formations and trees, no collecting or digging for artifacts, no fire building and/or camping, no unleashed pets or motorized vehicles on trails, no repelling and/or rock climbing, no hunting or disturbing of wildlife, no picking of any flowers or plant materials, no alcoholic beverages, and no littering (Remember CITO). This cache has been placed following all rules, regulations, and/ or guidelines set for placing caches in all Kentucky State Parks.
