Mary S. Young Park is owned by Oregon State Parks, but operated
through a cooperative agreement with the City of West Linn.
Located between Highway 43 and the Willamette River, Mary S. is a
fantastic park with ~8 miles of hiking and biking trails, a large
open leash-free dog area, soccer fields, and several nice beaches
along the river.
The trails are fairly simple, but if you're interested, the City
of West Linn provides several options for trail
maps. If you stick with the main loop and visit all of my
caches in the park, you should enjoy a nice ~3 mile hike. Some
parts of the trails are fairly level, but some sections follow the
ups and downs of the creeks in the area. And of course, it's
downhill to the river and uphill coming back.
For this cache, a new trail is currently being constructed that
make take you close by, but until it is complete, I recommend
sticking to the main trail all the way to the beach. (Trail under
construction as of April, 2009.)
If you visit during soccer season, it is best to drive to the
end of the road to avoid the parking chaos near the soccer fields.
As with many caches in Oregon's forests, GPS reception may not be
great. |
