Geocache Description:

Lake Pleasant was created as a water reservoir with the construction of the Waddell Dam in the 1920’s. It became a popular recreational area, and over the years, many roads were built within Lake Pleasant Park. With the construction of the larger New Waddell Dam in the early 1990’s, the water storage capacity and the lake size increased dramatically, and many of the old roads within the park became submerged. Due to the seasonal inflows/outflows from this reservoir, the lake level changes substantially with maximum water level being achieved in winter and minimum water levels in summer.

This cache is located along one of the old roads, portions of which are submerged during the winter months. This cache is located on high ground above the maximum water level. During periods of high water level, the high ground that this cache is located on will be completely surrounded by water, and the cache will be on an island.

When the lake water level is low (below 1662 feet), the road to this cache will be above water; under these conditions the cache is an easy P&G, you can drive to within 6 feet of cache using paved road. The cache should not be accessed via motor vehicle when the Desert Tortoise Road approach is under water.

Lake Pleasant Park is a fee area, $5.00 entrance fee, to Maricopa County Parks department, payable at park entrance station.
