Cache Details
This cache is a short diversion for those caching
through Deephaven.
Back in 1906, the owners of the Como-Harriet
Streetcar Line built a trolley line from Lake Harriet to Excelsior,
and purchased a section of railroad line at this location to extend
the transit to Deephaven. But by the Great Depression, profits had
fallen off, and the line was closed in August of 1932. This walking
trail is all that remains of the trolley line that once brought
people from the city out to the lake!
Finding parking may be more difficult than
finding the cache, but we hope you enjoy the neighborhood and the
stroll nonetheless.
Location, Parking, and Access
Parking in Deephaven is always a challenge, but from October 2nd
through April 30th, there is free and legal street parking either
at the Marina, or along Parkway Street at N 44° 56.244 W 093°
31.553 for a shorter walk. Please note: you can only park on the
East side of the street! From there, it's a short walk on a flat
and level trail to the cache location. Even though the trail isn't
paved, this cache was stroller-friendly when hidden...hopefully it
stays that way once the vegetation comes back in the Spring.
You are looking for a Lock 'n Lock container, hidden in the usual
sort of place. It starts out with a few small trinkets
hand-selected from the 'Noles kidlet's personal collection,
assorted camping supplies, a Red Jeep travel bug, and a Unite for
Diabetes travel bug. As always - thanks, have fun, and happy
hunting!
