this piece of land on the north bank of the Weeki Wachee River is now under FWC management. It is currently CLOSED TO PUBLIC ACCESS, both from the roadside, and from the river.

Geocache Description:

Along the Weeki Wachee River in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Area.

This cache is located off the river and off a trail. There is a nice beach and it's a beautiful place to swim and picnic.

There are two ways to get there.

  1. Park at the lot on Route 50. $3.00 per person or $6/car You will be there in 30 minutes.
  2. THE BEST WAY! Rent a 2 man canoe at Weeki Wachee Springs for $31, a 1 man kayak for $22 or launch your own for a small fee. The price includes pickup hours later at the other end of the river. Call (352)597-0360 for reservations. The trip takes about 2 1/2-3 hours plus any breaks. Many finders of this cashe say it was found on the other side of the trail from out original coordinates of W82 35.883. We have changed it to W82 35.893.
Wear your suit, bring a lunch and snorkel. Binoculars? Manatee may be spotted any time of the year and are very common November to April. Look but DO NOT TOUCH OR CHASE! ENDANGERED SPECIES & BIG FINES. Besides, it's not nice.

An easy paddle except for a few sharp corners. Make it a great day.

Admin Note: Because the owners of this cache are not able to maintain it and because it is within a National Wildlife Refuge (currently off-limits to geocaching), the next finder is requested to remove this cache and its contents. This cache will be archived after the next find. Thanks.
