Greetings,

It has been a while since I first looked at this cache. I can't find any recent responses about maintaining this cache so for the time being it will be archived and removed from the active cache listings. We are no longer leaving caches stay disabled for extended periods of time.

Groundspeak and the geocaching community appreciate your contributions to geocaching and I hope to see this cache back in operation soon.

If you can get it back up and running in the next week or so contact me to get it re-listed. Otherwise plan to move it slightly and set up a new cache page.

[green]Most problems can be solved with good communication so reply back to the reviewer and we will do everything possible within the guidelines to get your cache published. It is best to give me as much information as possible instead of saying nothing at all. This will speed up the process and we can get your cache published. [/green]

Geocache Description:

Get Your Kicks On Route 66
Enjoy your drive down the Mother Road.

The intent of this series is to point out historic or unique places along old route 66 between IL and CA. It is NOT meant to be a power trail as caches may be 50 miles or more apart. Stop and enjoy these sights along the way.

This cache features one of the most popular attractions along RT 66 in MO.
Stony Dell was a public resort built in 1932. It featured a large swimming pool, restaurant, service station, Trailways bus stop and in 1939 ten cabins renting for $1 to $2 a night.

The resort offered dancing, tennis, boating, fishing, and a Justice of the Peace. Stony Dell was so popular that many, many days the Highway Patrol had to be there to direct traffic.

The end came in 1967 when most of the resort was razed to make way for the construction of the 4 lane Highway 66. The only remaining piece of the swimming pool is the Artesion Well (which is still flowing today) that fed the swimming pool water

My wife told me she swam in the pool in the late 1950s and she said it had the coldest water she had ever swam in and I am sure that is true as this pool was quite literally "spring fed".
This cache features the still existing artesian well which still flows and can be seen and visited along I44. If you look closely at the pictures you will see the well flowing out of one of the rock features and cascading into the pool in the form of a waterfall. Several other features of the resort still remain and are featured in another nearby cache.
This cache is a small container with log book and pencil and room for smaller TBs and trinkets. It is located in the usual type cache hiding place.
The cache is best picked up going west along I44. There is a place to pull off far enough to walk to the aretesian well and cache. If you are going east you should probably take the Jerome exit and drive down old 66 until you reach a pull off spot. You will then need to bushwhack through to the cache and this includes at least one creek crossing making it more difficult and not handicap accessible.
Thanks for doing my cache and I hope you enjoy your trip down the "Great Mother Road"
