I thought Meandmydog’s cache challenge was a good opportunity to get started on a series of caches I had been thinking about for honoring the "Namesakes" of the 3 elementary schools in my home town. This first cache (which is my very first hide) is near, (not too near, for safety reasons. NO CACHE WLL BE ON SCHOOL PROPERTY!) Mastricola Elementary School. This cache was created to meet the logging requirements of GC17180-Vocabulary Virus

A History of James Mastricola Elementary School

James Mastricola Elementary School is the oldest of four elementary schools in Merrimack. The school was established in 1962 offering grades readiness through five. Today we are one of three K-4 schools

Our namesake, James Mastricola, emigrated from Italy to the United States at age17. He and his brother settled in Nashua. They began selling berries and fruit from a pushcart. As the business grew they earned enough to open a store and buy a farm in Merrimack. James worked the farm while his brother ran the store. When James died at the age of 80, he left his entire estate to the Town of Merrimack for the purpose of building a school. His hopes were to inspire young people to strive for a better life through education. James did not have any formal education himself and wanted others to have the opportunity.

Cache is a 35mm film canister placed a short distance from the school grounds.

PLEASE NOTE: If you do not sign the log sheet included in the cache container, your "find" will be deleted.
