The Great Gig in the Sky
Geocache originally placed by Dark-Star in 2007.
The cache can be found on the banks of "Lochan nan Corp" or The Loch of the Dead/Corpses.
So named after a funeral party in the 19th century making their way over the pass to St Brides Chapel in mid winter inadvertently crossed the snow covered ice. The ice gave under the weight and the entire party perished in the icy waters.
This cache can be done in conjunction with Ben Ledi or on its own. When the cache was placed, Dark-Star walked up the "main" path to the summit of Ben Ledi then north towards the Lochan, returning via "Stank Glen", which in his opinion is a prettier less busy route. There is no path shown on the OS map connecting to Stank Glen, but it is there. If you are "fleet of foot" you can head straight down from the lochan and intersect with the path down, or double back to pick it up where it turns for Ben Ledi (see route map) Or if you want an epic of a walk carry on along the ridge to Ben Vane. It is much further than it looks and is over difficult terrain but it is a brilliant walk.
