Working on getting the legs back into shape for an upcoming Grand Canyon hike. Not been doing a lot of hiking the last couple years given schoolwork, but that wrapped up a couple weeks ago. Put in a little over 8 miles, 1500' ascent/descent today at El Corte de Madera Creek. Started at gate CM09, headed down the Virginia Mill trail to the bridge over Lawrence Creek. One side trip up and back on Lawrence Creek trail to retrieve a geocache.

Geocache Description:

A decon can along side the trail at El Corte de Madera Creek OSP.

I just loved this stand of second growth redwoods growing out of a ring of the remnants of their giant parents. The signs of man show clearly on many of the giant stumps. For instance, there is a cut out on the stump closest to the trail. It was where the buckboards sat, allowing the logger to stand further up the tree. They would cut redwoods higher up as the wood up to a certain height was not suitable lumber.
