short scenic hike along Slippery Rock Creek
This is another one of my walks along the Slippery Rock Creek. This one a bit more difficult in terrain as the trail is a bit rocky. I hiked it in tennis shoes-so this part isn't as difficult. There's a grist wheel as you enter the trail head from eckert bridge. this trail is maintained by volunteers. If you stay on Slippery Rock Gorge Trail/NCT for 6.2 miles you'll find yourself at hell's hollow. well worth the hike if you're up to it.
The parking lot for this area is at: N40 56.254 W080 10.575
for closer parking most people park on eckert bridge, which is no winter maint. The cache is a camo dog treat container. has the usual stuff in it. It's hidden more for the short walk along the creek. This is dangerous water so please be careful and watch you step. There's lots of rocks for those that would like to watch the water. 10 years ago Mark and I walked these trails while we were just getting to know each other. We sat on many of these rocks you'll be passing. Sometimes you'll see kayakers in the water.
Enjoy the scenic area of McConnell's Mills. 5/9/08-If you try to drive to Eckert bridge from the mill-you'll find the bridge closed! You can hike from the mill over to the bridge. Only access to parking coords. is from rt19 to cheeseman road until the bridge reopens. becareful on cheeseman road-where it says rough road you can actually get your vehicle airborn if going fast enough!
