The Cheese Press Stone
Kingsdale is a wide valley above Ingleton which was formed by glaciations in the last ice age.
Containing some of England's finest limestone scenery, the Yorkshire Dales are very popular as a destination for walkers and cavers wanting to explore the extensive caves and potholes that the geology of the area has created.
The valley is famous for its numerous caves and potholes, including Yorda's Cave (which was formerly a show cave in Victorian times) and the Kingsdale master cave system.
Kingsdale is a vast limestone area, with some of the largest limestone pavements in England
The cache is located above the village Thornton In Lonsdale, turn up the road opposite the Marton Arms and continue up this road for approximately five minutes till you come to an obvious layby on the left side of the road with parking for 5 cars ( see waypoint).
Go through the gate by the layby and head left along the track, this is a green road made by farm vehicles, following this track will take you near “The Kingsdale Way – Tor Scar” cache, continue on the track till you come across a track which runs along the side of a wall this is the Turbary Road, turn right then right again at the gate and make your own way down to The Cheese Press Stone
There are many ways to the Cheese Press Stone so if you know the area you can make your own way there
After retrieving the cache you might like to retrace your steps to the gate and turn right through the gates and continue on the Turbary Road to “The Kingsdale Way – Rowten Pot” cache
