Avoca was a small settlement, established in 1848, about one mile east of the present village of Oakfield, WI.
It was centered around a mill, located on the millpond near here.
When the railroad bypassed this little hamlet, most of the people moved west, to be near the Oakfield station.
All that is left to carry the name "Avoca" is the cemetery.
The name comes from Thomas Moore's poem "Sweet Vale of Avoca", which extolled the beauty of Avoca, near Dublin, Ireland.
Check out the interesting Brown marker south of the hide site.
The cache is not located on nor near any markers. This is an active cemetery, so please be respectful to family members who may be visiting. If a service is in progress, return at a later time.
Congrats to Marble Guy on cache #1900!
