Tokai View Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

tomtwogates: After the fires and this area having been closed for a very long time. It also seems that the path that this cache was on is not likely to be reinstated I have decided to remove the cache and archive it. Thanks to all the finder's positive comments - who knows maybe in the future?

Geocache Description:

A super high level traverse above Tokai with stunning views over the Cape Flats from Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak on the one side to Cape Hangklip, False Bay and Muizenberg on the other side.

Parking is at the Tokai arboretum (S34 03.671 E18 24.886) which was Cape Town’s first tree nursery. Head off through the gateway and follow the Elephant’s Eye path which zigzags up the mountain and crosses over many forestry roads the final being level 5. Continue up the path until you find a path off to the right at S34 03.723 E18 23.940. You are now on an old traverse which has recently been cleared and upgraded which eventually gets out of the plantation with clear views over the Cape Flats and lots of spectacular fynbos. There is strong evidence of alien vegetation and trees being cleared from the slopes above the path, but a lot of work needs still to be done.

The path continues past the cache and turns hard right back down the slope and rejoins the road at S34 03.028 E18 23.838. You therefore don’t need to go back the way you came – enjoy your walk and a softdrink at the tea room when you return to your car.

Keep your eyes open for the pretty brown, black and white Mossie sized bird introduced by Cecil John Rhodes the Chaffinch which is only found in this part of Cape Town and especially in the plantation and near the tearoom.

There is no need to leave the path to find the cache. The cache is a screw top plastic container - only small trade items please!

Unfortunately no dogs allowed.
