We came to place a couple of caches in the area for Mr Coffee’s
4x4 – 2x2 event but misread the sign and ended up on a very wet and
slippery little hill
It was fun at first but as often happens the engine was turning
the wheels, but the forward momentum started to subside until it
was non-existent and finally turned negative.
A few hopeful forward and backward attempts before the old
Toyota surrendered to the sloppy mud and refused to go any
further.
DOH!!!
Time for the Winch'n Wench to do her thing!

Two pulls later (the cable is never long enough) we were back on
ground the Toyota could handle and slipped the rest of the way to
the top of the hill.
Once on the hard dry top of the hill Diane (Winch'n Wench)
insisted it was time for a drink and a bit of a clean up.
We had a large cache with us and decided this would be a good
spot to leave it, so any others who try coming in this way when it
is wet could find it after putting away their recovery gear.
The shortest way to the cache is from S 37° 50.723 E 145°
59.698, which if it is dry should be no problem if you have
reasonable ground clearance.
Warning: I have
revisited this area twice since it has dried out a bit, (80 series,
All Terrain tyres at highway pressures) to check the cache and the
hill. I had no trouble at all except for some large boulders. As I
have no way of knowing you or your vehicles capabilities please
check the track yourself before heading up. It is not
worth a damaged or stuck vehicle when there is a easy way
in.
Easy Way In: If it is wet and you do not have a
winch, or you do not have good ground clearance, or you just don’t
want to risk damage to your vehicle we recommend you take the
longer way in along Leski Rd which starts at S 37° 49.848 E 145°
59.770 Then follow Leski Rd to LV2 Track at S 37° 50.113 E
146° 00.676 Follow this to LV1 Track at S 37° 50.420 E 146°
00.756 Now follow the GPSr straight to the cache.
These reading are approximate as I did
not let the GPSr settle for very long as they are only a
guide.
Either way we hope you enjoy this little diversion.
This cache is our largest one yet, a 50ltr. screw top drum
hidden in a burnt out stump.
