A couple of interesting sculptures along the way.... It takes less than 1/2 an hour to complete and is suitable for buggies, but probably not wheelchairs.
The first sculpture, almost immediately, behind the centre, is a totem pole which was carved by people from Canada around 2003. They did other totem poles for various schools too. There is one at Chapel of Garioch School. You can see info about them here... www.brotus.co.uk The cache is near a bench which was put here in memory of an Anne Smith Arnold. This is an open area which has a view great of The Mither Tap and an area which had been colonised in the past. The cache is a small click lock box. The Bennachie Centre itself is open: 9.30am - 4pm in Winter 10.30am - 5pm in Summer....but always closed on a Monday. It has lots of info and interactive things for the kids to do. There is also a wee shop. Orienteering maps are available too. Unfortunately there is now a parking fee which varies depending on how long you are here. Thank you to Mark Reeve from The Forestry Commission for llowing another cache to be placed on Bennachie. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE BUSINESS CARDS IN CACHES....thank you. Please ensure lid is properly closed (small child wouldn't manage) and rehide well as could be vulnerable here. Thanks.
