BALLISTIC!!
Our daughter started playing soccer when she was in the first grade
with the Shooting Stars soccer team. Truth be told I'm sure she
played primarily because we insisted, but somewhere along the way
she fell in love with the sport.
She might have started with the Shooting Stars, but she wasn't on
the team for long, only playing one season with them. She played
for other coaches and other teams, trying to find the right mix of
girls and coaches who were in it for the fun of the game, but not
fanatics.
When she started in high school there weren't many parks&rec
teams in her age group still playing together what with the most
gung-ho players eventually choosing to play on one of the school
teams or going Select, if they had the mad soccer skillz.
Not so our girl. Sure, she liked soccer, but she didn't eat it,
sleep it, breathe it. In fact, more than once she considered
quitting soccer altogether, but her daddy and I have always
believed in the importance of team sports and at our request she
decided to give it one more season. That was 3 years ago.
I might tell you it was pure luck that she ended up on the
Ballistics, but like I said most of the parks&rec teams for her
age group were dissolving, but this one hadn't so she was placed on
the roster. The thing about this team was, just as they entered
high school the team decided it was time for a new image and a new
name since they were "all grown up" (the kids words) and so they
shed their old name, Shooting Stars, and became.... The
Ballistic.
This year our babygirl (she'd kill me if she knew I typed that!)
started her senior year of high school and her final year of
playing soccer for Marysville Youth Soccer Club, with the same team
she started with all those years ago.
This cache is dedicated to the two greatest soccer coaches to ever
set foot on the field (Bill and Gary), our girl and her team... The
Ballistic.
NOTE: This park closes at dusk. The neighbor is the caretaker
and I got the distinct impression he takes his job seriously, so
don't even try it. Capice?
