Geocache Description:

The cache container is a large (gallon size) plastic jar. Cache removed to dry contents on 7/16/2009. Plan to replace in a few days.

Geocache set by The Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS).

Land Surveyors may use modern GPS receivers and robotic total station survey instruments, but they must also understand the history of the Public Land Survey.

To show the link between the past and present surveys, our Geocache is near a corner set in the original survey of 1855. In Minnesota scans of the Township Plat or maps of the Public Land Survey are online and a link is shown to the Plat of Township 119, Range 21. The positions of the monuments set in the origional surveys are maintained by the County Surveyor, in this case, the Hennepin County Surveyor.

This cache is a large plastic jar hidden near a meander corner on the south line of Section 35, Township 119 North, Range 21 West.
The meander corner is marked by a cast iron monument and a fence post with a marker sign.
