Geocache Description:

Foot trail. Two options, the sea cliff trail for the adventure minded, it entails some steep sections but the view is killer. And the forest trail for city folks which is fairly flat. There is about a 550' elevation difference each way.

The original cache was destroyed last year by water. I left it in place so that anyone looking for it will at least find something. As of March 13, 2010. I have repaired the cache. Actually i put a new one there in it's place. Happy hunting, you'll really enjoy the view. Aloha again from beautiful Molokai. Take HWY 470 north till the end of the road. There is a public parking lot there. You are in Palaau State Park. You should first go to the Kalaupapa overlook where all the tourist go first. For the adventure minded, I would suggest the sea cliff trail. It starts at the far end of the rock wall and follows the cliff westward. There are a number of spectacular view points if you take the time to find them. I have cleared a number of them myself so hikers can really enjoy the experience. You will traverse a couple of little valleys, on your way, but nothing significant. If you like, you can return via the regular hiking trail marked by ribbons. However, some have reported getting lost, and due to the thick canopy, some GPS models will not work very well. Bear in mind that this State Park is only 285 acres, and you will never be more than a mile from your car. So, you'll never be lost for more than a few minutes.

If you are the city type, I would suggest the normal hiking trail that starts at the western end of the parking lot. Just beyond the fallen tree in the middle of the trail, take the left at the base of the trail head leading to the "Phallic Rock". The trail is marked with ribbons but you'll have to look for them. The hike will be almost exactly one mile each way. Allow yourself between 30 to 40 minutes one way with some time to enjoy the view once there. About 150 yards or so before the cache, you will cross a broken fence. This marks the end of the State Park. From there, you will be on private land. However, there is a buffer zone So, as long as you do not venture inland, you will be okay. Don't be surprised if you see Axis deer, Wild pig, and a goat or two. They live in this area. The cache is located right at the edge of the sea cliff, in a plastic wide mouth bottle. It contains a log book, a pen, and various items for trade inside. I have chosen this location for its shear beauty and awesome magnitude. You will be blown away by just being there. This place is very special, so please remember to keep it the way you found it. Have fun, Aloha, Ted.
