Geocache Description:

This is a fairly short walk (around 3/4 mile round trip) on the edge of the Emersons Green housing estate on the outskirts of Bristol.

This is my second cache and since placing my first cache (GC15VEY - The Owl and The Pussycat) nearby I have discovered some more public art on the Emersons Green housing estate close to where I am currently working. Details of further public art in South Gloucestershire (visit link) is available.

The following extracts are quoted from the above website:

"‘The Chain and the Wheel’ forms the spectacular centrepiece or ‘spine’ of a series of celebratory contemporary work commissioned by Avon and South Gloucestershire Councils across a major new development site."

"Lorna Green’s Chain and Wheel is one of the largest earthwork sculptures in the world, at over half a mile long and runs alongside the A4174. The design is based on the industrial chain and the split coal wheel, both important local features. Cycle tracks and footpaths, carefully designed planting and seating give views over the surrounding countryside. The forms of the earthwork constantly change with the seasonal variations of light."

There is a photo of the earthworks taking shape (visit link) (and scroll down about 2/3 of the page).

When I was setting this cache I also discovered another piece of public art and so I have incorporated this into the whole cache as stage one. The following extract is quoted from the Public Art in South West website on this sculpture:

"Artist Steve Joyce commissioned to provide central 'gateway' feature - time-line spiral Now & Then, in profile cut steel depicting the history of the local area, cast iron tree grills featuring castings of hands of local people and oak leaf design and cast iron pavement plaque. Local people and Mangotsfield Primary School involved in design generation. Commissioned by Persimmon and David Wilson Homes."

Stage one - The sculpture
Proceed to the posted coordinates and find the name of the farm that is on the sculpture (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Farm). Convert each letter into a number using your mobile phone key pad (i.e. A,B or C = 2, D,E or F = 3 etc.) to give you 8 numbers (N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6, N7 and N8).

Stage two - The wheel
From stage one, proceed to N51 29.213 W002 28.222 and calculate the number of years that the time capsule is to be hidden for (N9).

Stage three - The chain
From stage two, climb down the steps and up the steps opposite and then turn left and proceed to N51 28.955 W002 28.390, following the tarmac path. Count the number of benches passed between stages two and three (N10).

Final location
The cache is located nearby at:
N 51 28.(N6 + N7)(N9 - N3 - N10)(N2 + N5) W 002 28.(N7)(N2 + N8 - N7)(N10 / N5)

The cache is contained within a drawstring camouflage bag.
Please be careful retreiving this cache as the area can be muggle rich.
