Spirit Rock has long been a Valley landmark. When hippies, artists, musicians, and mystics (these categories tend to overlap) moved into this area, they ascribed a certain importance to this rock and gave it a name. Some felt it must have been particularly sacred to the native population, although it probably wasn't. And even if the tree continues to grow and obscure the rock itself, it remains one of the most popular subjects for photographs and paintings in the area. The nearby meditation center took its name from the rock — please respect their property and do not hike to the rock itself.
Driving by at 55 mph, you may not pay much attention to it. So this cache is designed to get you to stop and look. It should be a simple find. For safety, I recommend stopping only if you are driving West on Sir Francis Drake.
It would be nice if the gallery recorded pictures of the rock at different times of the day, at different seasons, using different angles. Bonus Points are awarded those who post a photograph of the rock.
