Geocache Description:

You are seeking a large ammo can in the Cohotate Preserve on the shore of the Hudson River.

At 52 acres in size and with over 3,000 feet of Hudson River frontage, this name of this preserve is derived from the Iroquois 'Cohatatea' meaning 'water that flows two ways'. This refers to the fact that the Hudson River is an estuary, with two high and two low tides daily.

Regardless of the time of year you visit, consider bringing your camera and binoculars as the views of the Hudson as well as the local flora and fauna are excellent. If you have the time and the interest, be sure to grab a copy of the interpretive guide provided at the sign-in station near the parking area.

The cache is not far off the trail and was originally stocked with a variety of trade items. There is an FTF prize in the log book.

The preserve is open from Dawn to Dusk only.

Congrats to Mark.B on the FTF! Be sure to check out his "Cohotate Pond Cache" on your way to or from this one.

Happy Caching!
