The currents are treacherous!
In the 1950s, fishing companies on either side of the harbor would throw their scraps into the water. Access to the Bay and inlet were blocked by the old bridge, so the tide ended up pushing all of the scraps (and other trash) up towards the beach. The resulting stench caused the locals to name the beach "Stinky Beach".
Residential homes have sprung up through the years, and now, just a small portion of the beach remains. It was officially named Homer Gudelsky Park several years ago, but to locals it will forever be known as Stinky Beach.
