Geocache Description:

SHORT EASY WALK WITH A GREAT VIEW OF THE SURROUNDING COUNTRY

THERE ARE SEVERAL LOCAL STORIES AS TO HOW THIS PLACE GOT IT'S NAME. THE MOST BELIEVED IS ABOUT HOW THE ROAD GOT HERE. THE ORIGINAL WAGON ROAD WENT SOUTH AROUND THIS HILL. WHEN THE COUNTY DECIDED TO STRAIGHTEN THE ROAD THEY HAD TO CUT THE HILL DOWN. IT IS SAID THAT THE FIRST MAN TO MAKE A CUT DOWN THE HILL WAS NICKNAMED "MUSKRAT". WITH THE OLD EQUIPMENT THAT THE COUNTY HAD BACK THEN "MUSKRAT" WENT DOWN THE HILL. THE OLD BULLDOZER DIDN'T HAVE VERY GOOD BREAKS AND WAS SOON SLIDING DOWN THE HILL SIDEWAYS. "MUSKRAT" GOT IT STOPPED JUST BEFORE IT WENT INTO THE 4-MILE CREEK. WHEN YOU SEE THE HILL YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE STORY.

ANOTHER INTERESTING STORY ABOUT THIS HILL IS ABOUT AN INDIAN BURIAL SITE. A SMALL HUNTING PARTY HAD BEEN EAST OF HERE HUNTING AND WERE ON THEIR WAY HOME. THE CHIEF BECAME VERY ILL BY THE TIME THEY GOT HERE AND SOON DIED. THEY HUNTING PARTY WENT TO THE HOUSE JUST WEST OF HERE AND ASKED FOR PERMISSION TO BURY THE CHIEF ON THE HILL. THE FARMER TRADED THE BURIAL GROUND FOR SEVERAL HORSES.
WHEN LITTLE BLUE AND I WERE FIRST MARRIED WE HUNTED FOR AND FOUND THE BURIAL SITE. THERE ARE TWO GRAVES THERE ONE FOR THE CHIEF AND ONE FOR HIS HORSE. THIS WAS 30 YEARS AGO AND IT WAS VERY HARD TO FIND IT THEN. WE WON'T TELL ANYONE WHERE IT IS BECAUSE WE THINK IT IS A SPECIAL PLACE AND SHOULD NOT BE DISTURBED.
