A short sharpe walk that will make you puff
On the 1st of August 1867 Thames was offically proclaimed a Goldfield and on the 10th of August 1867 Mr Clarkson and 2 friends found gold at this spot. As you are walking up the track on the left there is a small clearing and this was the site of the mine managers house. NOTE stay on the tracks as some mine enterances have growth over them.
Suggested parking is at the Kuranui picnic area at
S37`07.462 E175` 31.893. This is a start of a great walk around the waterfront of Thames and also takes you out into the mangroves to where there is a bird hide. The track is clay so care is need when wet. I planted this about 3 months ago and have waited so the growth would cover my tracks
