Kätkö sijaitsee UKK-reitin varrella Nunnanlahden Korkeavaaran huipulla. UKK-reitti on Itä-Suomen läpi Savukosken Tulppiosta Kolille johtava vaellusreitti ja nimensä se on saanut presidentti Urho Kekkosen mukaan, joka vaelsi reitin v. 1957.
Vaikka Korkeavaara ei ihan yllä Kolin korkeuslukuihin, tarjoaa se kauniit maisemat Pieliselle. Ja maisemista voit nauttia rauhassa, sillä UKK-reitti ei ole tällä kohtaa kovin ahkerassa käytössä. Grillikatoksessa voit paistaa makkaraa ja jopa wc on raahattu paikalle.
Kätkölle on parkkipaikalta lyhyt nousu. Muista käydä ihailemaasa maisemia. Suositeltavampi tapa suorittaa kätkö on vaeltaa Nunnanlahdesta Piitteriin tai toisin päin (n. 10 km) UKK-reittiä pitkin. En kyllä ole itse sitä vielä tehnyt, mutta ehkä ensi kesänä...
The cache is located at UKK hiking route in Nunnanlahti at the hill of Korkeavaara („high hill“). UKK hiking route is named after the former Finnish president Urho Kekkonen, who hiked the route from Tulppio in Savukoski to Koli in 1957.
Although Korkeavaara does not reach the hight of Koli, it also offers a nice view over lake Pielinen. And compared to Koli, you can enjoy the view in peace, as this part of the UKK hiking route is not so popular. A place to grill and a toilet are available.
There is a small hike from the parking place to the cache. However, the most recommended way to look for the cache is to take the hike from Nunnanlahti to Piitteri or other way round along the UKK route (10 km). I have not done this myself yet, but plan to do it next summer...
