While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed, and it is time to have it listed once again it will be no problem as long as it still meets the guidelines. Just drop me a note( by email at Mongo@geocachingadmin.com) and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and I am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
Mongo

Geocache Description:

This is an easy park and grab cache located near Wilson's Creek National Battlefield which is managed by the National Park Service. Wilson's Creek was the first major Civil War battle fought west of the Mississippi River, and the scene of the death of Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union general killed in combat.

The cache is located just on the side of Farm Road 182 but I would encourage you to park on Farm Road 99 which is far less busy. I would also urge you to be discrete as there is a farm house just up the road from the cache. I placed this cache here to bring attention to our local National Park gem. A word of caution, the cache is not in the nearby culvert, I would discourage even going near that area which is very steep and slippery. In the cache I placed a star wars toy, a child's book, toy camera, 2 wizard of oz toys, and a toy necklace. (A big thank you to Fullyclothed who helped me place this, my first, cache.) Wilson's Creek was the first major Civil War battle fought west of the Mississippi River, and the scene of the death of Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union general killed in combat. Although a Southern victory, the Southerners failed to capitalize on their success. With the exception of the vegetation, the field has changed little and remains in near pristine condition. -obtained from the NPS website The park includes a guided tour of the battlefield, a visitor center that offers a Civil War Research Library and a 14 min. movie about the battle and also a Civil War Museum.
