The cache is hidden in classic limestone country. Sink pots, potholes, collapsed caves, limestone pavements, streams vanishing and resurging are all features of the flanks of Ingleborough. A most beautiful, reasonably strenuous walk from wherever you choose to start!
Moughton Scars is a magical place. Mike Harding recommended it in one of his Dales walking books. I have to agree with him as it is a place that I also love dearly. I hope you too will enjoy the quiet and tranquility it has to offer. It is an enormous natural amphitheatre where a limestone pavement is cupped by a semi circle of limestone cliffs. Hut circles of Bronze Age man and from below the scar, Moughton whetstones were taken by packhorse to Sheffield in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries where they were used to sharpen the best Sheffield blades. The walk to the cache takes you off footpath but is definitely worth the effort! From the trig point you can see Ingleborough, Penyghent, Whernside and Pendle Hill.
