Somerset & Bristol quarterly get-together Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

FollowMeChaps: I think most have logged it so time to archive.

Many thanks to The Cartooners for offering to arrange the next one and keep it going.

Please consider adding your own name to the organiser list so we can keep this as a regular fixture and move it around the area.

Geocache Description:

A quarterly get-together of local geocachers. This low-key evening event is being held mid-winter on Friday, 29th February 2008 to provide an excuse for geocachers to meet, geogossip, plan future excursions and socialise. If you are “local”, however widely you wish to define that, please come along and join us - all are most welcome.

Friday 29th February 2008
7:30 until 11:00 pm

This event will take place at the The Prince of Orange pub in Yatton, 12 miles south of Bristol about a mile off the A370 Bristol to Weston-super-Mare road. Once again we have been given permission to gather in the skittles alley behind the bar. This child friendly pub has ample parking and there is also a further village car park just a couple of hundred yards away – see additional waypoints. The event, the last of which attracted people from as far as Birmingham and Devon, is open to all cachers without charge.

It will be a very informal evening allowing you to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. If you have not been to an event before then please come along and join us – you’ll find that the others who do this strange hobby are just as crazy as you. They are certainly a very friendly bunch.

Following the last get-together we have decided to try and meet quarterly. As nobody came forward offering to arrange it I have again agreed to do this one - what a hero that FMC is! I’m taking the easy option and using the same venue as last time especially as it proved so suitable. This quarterly cycle will also fit nicely with the Burrington Bash event which I am proposing to run every other year - you have been warned!

Geocoins & Travel Bugs
You will be able to swap Geocoins & Travel Bugs at this event or just play a role in helping them on their way. To make this process easier Mrs. wheelybarrow has again kindly volunteered to collect and issue them. If you do place/retrieve a TB at the event, please make sure that you log it promptly, keeping a note of its tracking number, etc.

Things to ponder
As with the previous get-together we want the opportunity to discuss group outings or matters of common local interest. In order to facilitate this we are listing topics below along with a topic champion. If you have an interest in any of the listed topics then make sure that you catch up with its champion on the night to find out the latest, volunteer or just discuss the issue. Also if you would like to add a topic then please state this in your log or contact FollowMeChaps and we’ll add it to the list together with your caching name as the topic champion.

”I’m hoping to attend” logs
If you are thinking of coming to this event then it will help me a lot if you can post a ‘Write Note’ log to this effect on this page. Please also post a ‘Will Attend’ log once your intention to attend firms up. Who knows, maybe we could use Will Attend logs as a basis for an informal skittles knock-out?

Getting there:-
Public Transport - Yatton station is on the Bristol to Weston-super-Mare mainline railway with a fairly frequent service (train services), the pub is about three quarters of a mile walk from the station. It can be also be reached by several bus services (bus services).
By Car - There is ample parking to the rear of the pub plus an additional public car park 200 yards away – see Additional Waypoints. Yatton is on the B3133 about 5 miles from the M5 either junctions 20 if you are travelling from the north or 21 if you are approaching from the south.

Finally, many thanks to all those who have volunteered to help out on the night or are supporting in other ways. Aren’t geocachers great?!!!

We look forward to seeing all who can make it.

Be there or be square geographically challenged!
