Geocache Description:

Another bit of little known (or forgotten) Tallahassee trivia.

This cache is located at what WAS the original location of WCTV - Channel 6.

As a young child this was the only station we could get in the area. I have many memories of Channel 6 being at this location as well as what was broadcasted - Willy the Weatherman along with Frank Pepper and the Good Morning Show to name a few.

The most important memory (to me anyway) was of Jack Ridner & The Circle 6 Ranch kids' show where Jack would always be dressed up as a cowboy.

It was on TV in the afternoon I believe. We would run home the 2 1/2 blocks from school in order to get our homework done before the TV could be turned on. We ALWAYS wanted to be on the show, begging every birthday for our party be held here.

It was my brother that finally got to have his party there - after all he was the baby - I think it was sometime in the early 60's. Of all the excitement and fun all I can remember of that day is my brother telling Jack "I want to say hello to my momma, my daddy, my sisters [we were sitting right next to him] and everybody that's washing". Yep WASHING. He has never lived it down. We still quote him to this day.

I believe it was in the mid-70's that the station moved way out to State Road 12 leaving the tower here. The studio was torn down and a restaurant built in its place which just recently closed. The station is now on Capital Circle NE near I-10.
