Geocache Description:

If you've driven along the A904 between South Queensferry and Newton village, you've probably noticed this 'doorway' on the hillside. It is an old ice house, which I imagine was once used by the nearby Duddingston Farm. (If anyone can provide more information on this ice house, please get in touch and I will add it to this page)

Due to the location of the ice house and for reasons I have mentioned below, the cache is placed a short distance to the West of the ice house. If you would like to have a closer look, considerate parking is possible either next to the cache or on the road opposite.

PLEASE NOTE that the A904 can be a very busy and fast road, especially at peak times. If you head East towards the ice house, you will be able to keep a good few metres from the roadside due to the wide verge. At the time of placing the cache, I noted that the fence into the field (which you must cross for around 20 metres) was broken down in places.

WARNING!!!.... PLEASE ALSO BE AWARE THAT THE ICE HOUSE HAS A OPENING ON THE ROOF (TOP OF THE MOUND) WHICH MAY BE OBSCURED BY VEGETATION. TAKE EXTRA CARE ESPECIALY IF YOU HAVE LITTLE ONES OR IF YOU VIST THIS AT NIGHT AS THIS WOULD BE A NASTY FALL.
