I was looking at a map of Castle Rock State park which included a portion of Sanborn. I noticed an unnamed peak with a trail going right to the top, and I thought it would be a good spot for a hike and a cache. The last section of the trail that branches off the Summit Loop Trail doesn't appear on current Sanborn maps and is not maintained, but it seems to get occasional use. There are no signs that discourage use of the trail. The last section of trail winds around a open meadow that looks to me like the handiwork of an early settler. There is a fork in the trail at N 37 14.150 W 122 05.486. A downed tree obscures the fork you want that continues to the left and up. There isn't much of a view from the top because of the heavy tree cover, but it is still a nice area. There is no flat part of this trail. Starting from Skyline, there is a big elevation drop, then a shorter climb up to the cache.
Congrats to The Davidsons on FTF, and thanks for writing the cache info on the first page of the log book for me.
