This cache is located close to the Prairie Creek Trail about 2.2 kms from the winter parking area and has an elevation gain of approximately 140m. Winter parking is on the side of Hwy 66 by the gate at Elbow Falls (WP001). During summer, parking is available a few hundred meters west of the winter gate (WP002).
The very enjoyable and scenic hike to this viewpoint can be accomplished at any time of the year. It forms part of the 11.5 km Powderface Creek – Prairie Creek Loop hike, which is popular year round. The elevation gain to the cache is gradual except for a short steep bit just after crossing Prairie Creek and another short steep section to get from the trail to the cache. The cache is located on a rocky rib that sweeps down off Prairie Mountain and features great views both up and down the valley. I highly recommend that you wait until you get to the crest of the rib (WP003) before turning up towards the cache, as it will be much easier that way.
The cache is a round 500 ml nalgene container holding a very few trade items. When I placed the cache I encountered a little ice here and there on the trail, so wear proper footwear and be careful.
