Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

(The puzzle is the hard part, the hide itself is a "1" ... and the puzzle isn't really all that tough.)

When I was a kid, I became a member of Windjammers Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey. I belonged for many years. It is now, however, defunct. The posted coordinates are at the top of the dock where I kept my boat (“HH”) while I was a member of Windjammers.

An interesting story about HH: Prior to taking delivery, I was a crew member of another racing yacht whose sail number was 7071. (Incidentally, the digit in the thousand’s column on a racing boat’s sail number indicates the area in which the boat is berthed, with a “7” representing Southern California.) When I took delivery of HH, I applied for a sail number. By that time, the sail numbers were in the 97000s. I asked for something easy to remember and was told I’d get whatever was next in line. I was assigned “97071.” That day, I went to lunch with some people from my office. I mentioned I’d received my new sail number to highlight the fact my new boat had arrived. In any event, one of the paralegals, who was into numerology, wanted to evaluate the number. She wrote it down on a napkin. It was only then that I noticed that it was the same sail number as the boat I’d been crewing on, with the exception of the leading “9.” I took it as a good omen.

I’ve been unable to discern any significance to either the hull number “153” or the registration number “1429.”

Enjoy the puzzle. And remember: Life's not just a great big game of hide-and-seek. …

Oh wait, … Yes it is.
