Cuentan que desde hace miles
de años, existe una sociedad secreta uno de cuyos objetivos es
buscar el punto donde se encuentra el fin del mundo para
depositar en él un tesoro. Sabemos que Hércules fue uno de los
enviados, y que decidió que el fin del mundo eran las famosas
Columnas de Hércules. Más tarde se asignó este honor a
Finisterre. Con el descubrimiento de América se otorgó el
título a un punto cercano al Cabo de Hornos. En la actualidad
la sociedad no sabía como asumir las últimas teorías
científicas como la relatividad para reconocer dónde estaba el
fin del mundo y hacerle la correspondiente ofrenda de un
tesoro.
Se decidió enviar a un emisario de nombre Memo (no había mucho
donde escoger). Su única instrucción fue "viaja hacia el Oeste
hasta el Fin del Mundo, deposita allí este tesoro y dinos dónde se
encuentra". Memo preguntó "¿Y cómo sabré que he llegado?".
Respuesta: "Porque ya no podrás avanzar más aparte de que verás
cosas extrañas".
Memo caminó días, semanas, meses, años... hasta que un día se dio
cuenta de que iba avanzando hacia el Oeste y la tierra firme se
acababa. Llegó al final y se encontró con un tipo de color verde
que andaba sobre las manos. "Sin duda, este lugar es el Fin del
Mundo". Memo ocultó el tesoro en las cercanías y cuando ya se
disponía a partir se dio cuenta de que no sabía como indicar su
posición a sus superiores.
Desesperado se puso a llorar a moco tendido de tal modo que un
anciano se preocupó por él y dejó que Memo le contase sus penas. El
anciano se quedó pensativo y al rato le dijo: "Creo que tengo una
solución. Soy astrónomo y justamente traigo conmigo una especie de
telescopio pero que únicamente te permite ver aquello que hay sobre
tu cabeza (lo que se llama el Zenit). Deberás observar todas las
noches por el telescopio hasta que veas una estrella. En ese
momento pulsa este botón para avisarme y te daré más
instrucciones."
Memo siguió las instrucciones. Pasaron días, semanas, meses,
años... y un día al fin una estrella cruzó el telescopio.
Pulsó el botón y a los pocos minutos se presentó un joven. "Buenas
noches, soy el hijo de quien conociste, mi padre murió ya hace
mucho, pero me dijo que un día llamarías". "Estos son los datos que
debo darte. La estrella que has visto se llama Algol y pertenece a
la constelación de Perseo. El día y hora en que tú has pulsado el
botón el Ángulo Sidéreo (AS) de Algol era 312º49,200' y su
declinación (D) era D = 41º23,035' N".
Memo puso cara de póker.
El joven lo vio y le dijo "Las fórmulas astronómicas para resolver
una posición son muy complicadas. Afortunadamente en el caso de
paso de un astro por el Zenit se simplifican bastante. Sólo has de
saber que la latitud (l) es igual a la declinación y la longitud
(L) hacia el Este es igual al Horario en Greenwich de Aries (HGA)
en el día y hora en que viste la estrella más el Angulo
Sidéreo."
Memo sintió un fuerte dolor de barriga y su cara se puso
verde.
El joven le dijo "Puedo darte un último dato. El Horario en
Greenwich de Aries a la hora en que me has llamado era 49º 22,766'.
Te pondré todo lo que necesitas saber junto aquí abajo. Debo irme.
Buena suerte."

Incapaz de asumir toda esa información Memo salió corriendo de allí
y nunca más se supo de él... ni de la posición del Fin del Mundo...
ni del tesoro... ¿que pasará con esa inmensa fortuna?
Notas:
1)Para los puristas, la declinación de Algol ha sido ligeramente
retocada para que el enunciado sea coherente.
2)Si un valor pasa de 360º hay que restarle 360º (382º es
equivalente a 382-360 = 22º)
3)Como curiosidad, si queréis ver el cielo tal como lo vio Memo,
debéis cambiar la fecha y hora del ordenador por las de la
observación, iniciad el Google Earth y centrar el mapa en la
posición del tesoro. A continuación seleccionad "Ver-Cambiar al
Cielo" y veréis el mapa del cielo con la constelación de Perseo y
Algol.
Más notas:
1) Cuidado con los geomuggles. En especial si llevan uniforme.
2) Puede llegarse al cache caminando, no hay que trepar ni hay
ningún tipo de problema de accesibilidad.
3) Es una zona muy expuesta a las inclemencias del tiempo. En un
día tranquilo, sin viento ni olas es un lugar muy tranquilo y
seguro. En caso contrario puede llegar a ser peligroso. Se ruega
utilizar el sentido común.

This is a small, quiet and not very known zone in the middle of one
of the most touristic places in Barcelona. You are able to left the
car in the paying parking zone, about 41º23,200'N and
002º12,100'E.
It is said that, from the beginning of times there is a secret
society which its goal is to locate the End Of The World and to
hide there a treasure. We know that Hercules was one of the
researchers and he found the famous Columnas de Hercules. Later on,
this honour was assigned to Finisterre. When America was discovered
this title was given to a place near Horn Cape. Nowadays the
society did not know how to deal with the latest scientifics
theories like relativity to recognize where was located the end of
the world to be able to hide there the treasure.
The leaders of the society decided to send a researcher named Memo
(there were no much members to choose). The only instruction was
"travel to the West until the End Of the World, hide there this
treasure and tell us where it is located." Memo asked "how will I
know that I am at the right place?". Answer: "Because you will not
be able to walk anymore, and also you will see strange things."
Memo walked days, weeks, months, years... until one day that he
realized he was heading west and the ground was ending in front of
him. He arrives to the end and he saw a green-skin young man
walking on their hands. "For sure, this is the End Of the World".
Memo hide carefully the treasure in the area and when he was going
to leave he realized that he did not know how to define the
position to his leaders.
Desperate, Memo began to cry and shout like a baby. He looked so
desperate that an old man took care of him. Memo explained the
problem to the old man. The man reflexionate and after some minutes
started to talk: "I think I have a solution. I am an astronom and
casually I bring a kind of telescope but a little bit special: it
only shows you the part of the sky which is exactly over your head
(also known as the Zenith). You will have to look every night
through the telescope until you will see a star. Then just press
this button and I will come."
Memo followed the instructions and he searched the sky during days,
months, years... and one day a single star crossed the
telescope.
Memo pressed the button and after a while a young man arrived.
"Good night, I am the son of the old man you met here. Mi father
died a long time ago, but he told me that one day you would call.
This is the data I have collected for you. The star you have seen
is named Algol, from the Perseus constellation. At the day and time
you pressed the button the Sidereal Angle (AS) of Algol was
312º49,200' and the Declination (D) was D = 41º23,035' N".
Memo remained inexpressive.
The young man looked at Memo and told him "Astronomical Formulae
to find the current position can be very complicated. Fortunately,
in the special case of a star crossing the Zenith they are very
simplifyed. You only have to know that the latitud (l) is the
declination and the longitude (L) towards the East equals to the
Greenwich hour angle (HGA) at the day and time of the observation
plus the Sidereal Angle.
Memo became livid and begin to felt a strong pain in his
stomach.
The young man said: "I can give you another data. The Greenwich
hour angle when you called me was 49º 22,766'. Here below you will
find all the information you need together. I must go. Good
luck."

After hearing all this Memo suffered a pannic attack and he runned
away. Nobody knew nothing about him never more... neither about the
treasure location... what will happen with this huge fortune?
Notes:
1) Some data has been slightly modified to make the problem
coherent.
2) If a value excceds 360º you must substract 360º(i.e.: 382º is
equivalen to 382º-360º = 22º)
3) Geomuggle zone. Please take care.
4) You can arrive to the cache just walking. You do not have to
climb and there is not any accesibility problem.
5) This is a zone very weather dependent. When it is calm the zone
is very peaceful but it can be dangerous with bad sea or strong
wind. Please use the common sense.
