Este caching esta ubicado en La Reserva Natural Laguna Tortuguero. Está localizada en la costa norte de P R entre los municipios de Vega Baja y Manatí. Es uno de los cuerpos de agua dulce más grande de la Isla y único en su clase. Se distingue por su gran belleza escénica, importancia ecológica y por su sistema natural rico en fauna y flora acuática. La laguna cubre un área aproximadamente de 2.43 km2 y contiene un volumen total de agua de 708 millones de galones. Está compuesto de dos segmentos: la Laguna Tortuguero que incluye la ciénaga del noreste conocida como Cabo Caribe y Laguna Rica. Su profundidad prevalecientes está entre cuatro a cinco pies. La consideración hidrológica de más importancia es la relación entre la Laguna y sus fuentes principales de agua; el agua subterráneo de los acuíferos y el agua que corre por descargas fluviales superficiales durante las lluvias. La laguna posee un gran valor ecológico. Este cuerpo de agua es en realidad la única laguna natural de P R. Sirve como barrera de difusión entre las aguas marinas y las aguas dulces subterráneas de esta región. Esta reserva está constituida por pantanos: ciénagas, flora rara y endémica, así como especies en peligro de extinción, arenas silíceas, mogotes y cuerpos de agua. Si vienes por el expreso 22 desde San Juan, salir en la salida #42 (Vega Baja - Morovis), mantente en la derecha y en la # 2 a la derecha y luego en el SOLO a la izquierda en la carretera #687. Igual si bienes del área oeste salir en la salida #42A hacia la #2 mantente en la derecha, y doblas a la derecha y tomas el solo hacia la #687, muy importante el horario de entrada a la Reserva es de Miércoles a Viernes de 7:00am. a 3:30pm. Sábados y domingo de 6:00am. a 6:00pm.
This caching is located in the Natural Reserve Tortuguero Lagoon, in the North coast of PR between the municipalities of Vega Baja and Manati. Tortuguero Lagoon is one of the greater fresh water bodies of the Island and únique in it's class. It is distinguished by its great scenic beauty, ecological importance and by its rich natural system in fauna and aquatic flora. The lagoon approximately covers an area of 2.43 km2 and contains a total volume of water of 708 million gallons. It's compose of two segments: the Tortuguero Lagoon that includes the bog of the well-known northeast "Cabo Caribe" and Rica Lagoon. Its depth is usually between four and five feet. The hydrological consideration of more importance is the relation between the Lagoon and its main sources of water; the underground water and water-bearing that runs by superficial fluvial unloadings during rains. The one that falls in the river basin which leaks quickly arriving at the Lagoon. The same one gathers the flow of underground and superficial waters in it's totality with exception of those that unload directly towards the sea. The only movement of waters through the channel that connects Lagoon with the sea. This movement is always in direction towards the sea. It is possible to be said that an important aspect for the maintenance of the lagoon's natural state is the balance of interphase of the fresh water and salt water. The lagoon has a great ecological value. This water body is in fact the only natural lagoon of P R. It serves as a diffusion barrier between marine waters and underground fresh waters in this region. This reserve is constituted by swamps: bogs, rare and endemic flora, as well as species in extinction danger, sands, water wooded hills and bodies. I hope you enjoy this Caching. Driving directions: From highway 22 heading west, take exit #42 (Vega Baja - Morovis), stay in the right lane and at the light make a right turn to Road #2. Make a left on the one way towards Road #687. Follow the same directions if you're heading east from highway 22, the exit will be #42A.
