Esta cache leva-vos a conhecer o melhor do Penedo, as suas ruas, as suas tradições e a sua magnifíca vista.
O Penedo é uma pequena e pitoresca aldeia da serra de Sintra. É um local que quem lá mora se conhece bem uns aos outros.
Nesta aldeia fazia-se uma festa no sétimo Domingo depois da Páscoa, em honra do Espírito Santo, tal como nos Açores havia uma “corrida de touro” á corda, no fim desta, o touro era morto e a sua carne era cozinhada e distribuída, no dia seguinte, pelas pessoas mais carenciadas da região e por todos que fizessem promessas. A promessa consistia em que, se algo pedido ao Espírito Santo se realiza-se, a pessoa que prometeu iria sentar-se junto dos mais pobres e a comer junto deles, como sendo uma forma de humildade para retribuir o que o Espírito santo lhe concedera.
Tal coma a pessoa que se sentava á mesa com os pobres era por promessa também o Imperador da festa o era.
O Imperador no princípio desta festividade se realizar era uma pessoa mais velha a sê-lo, só mais tarde se passou a ser um jovem. Era ele a pessoa mais importante da festa, não por ser o Imperador, mas por ter sido a ele que o Espírito Santo lhe fizera um “milagre”.
A festa era geralmente quatro dias, quinta-feira, sexta-feira, sábado e domingo, mas os pontos altos eram: no sábado a largada á corda do touro (também ele oferecido por promessa) pelas ruas da aldeia, que no seu final era morto no largo do chafariz, para que todos pudessem ver o animal e o sacrifício a que ele era exposto para uma causa nobre, poder pelo menos uma vez por ano saciar a fome daqueles que tanto necessitam, e ao mesmo tempo sentirem que o Divino Espírito Santo estaria com eles mais um ano. No domingo era feita a coroação do Imperador, primeiro a Banda e os demais populares vinham-no buscar a sua casa para o levarem para a igreja para ser lá coroado depois vinham novamente a casa comia-se qualquer coisa que ouve-se, que não era tão pouco como isso, pois tratava-se de servir bem a uma promessa que se tinha realizado. Novamente o Imperador era levado, mas agora para o recinto do coreto, que era de lá que ele iria observar o “banquete dos pobres” juntamente com o Condestável (o futuro Imperador que transportava uma espada na mão) e com o Porta-bandeira (o exImperador e que transportava como o nome indica a Bandeira do Divino Espírito Santo)
A distribuição do pão na Festa do Espírito Santo tem a sua origem na dádiva de comida aos pobres pela Rainha Santa Isabel
Como é óbvio sendo o touro, que daria a carne para o banquete, um touro de morte e como é proibido por lei, esta festa poucas pernas teve mais para andar. Não queria deixar de dizer que esta TRADIÇAO têm mais anos de existência que a de Barrancos, mas que não têm a localização geográfica que Barrancos possui e possivelmente aqueles que fazem força para esta festa acabar não conhecem nem de perto nem de longe o Penedo e as suas tradições.
