The trail starts at the Spruce Woods Recreational Area parking lot (WP001), which is on the portion of the Jumpingpound Demonstration Forest Driving Tour located south of Sibbald Trail (Hwy 68). Turn south from Hwy 68 onto the easternmost leg of the driving tour loop and travel in a clockwise direction, as this is mostly a one-way road. The first kilometre of the westernmost leg is a two-way road, shared with the Oil Industry as part of an access road to some wells on Moose Mountain.
This lovely loop trail is only 2 kms in length with minimal elevation gains. Although the trail never attains any lofty elevations it does travel though a very pleasant forest with large Spruce, Pine and Cottonwood trees. The cache is located close to the highest point on the loop and does offer some limited views of Moose Mountain. About 300 meters of the SW part of the loop is shared with the Tom Snow Trail forming part of the TransCanada Trail. The Tom Snow Trail can be followed southward for about 10 kms where it intersects the West Bragg Creek ski trails at my “Far End of the Moose” cache (GC17N31).
The cache is a 1-liter LnL containing a few trade items plus prizes for the FTF, STF and TTF. The prizes are a $5.00 Starbucks card, a packet of Wildflower note cards created by none other than BVPete and $2.00 in cash. Please claim the prize you want leaving the others for the next to find.
One other note, I did come across some rather large cat tracks, so it is probably better to hike with a friend or two and make noise. On the more comforting side, I have been hiking in these hills for over 35 years and seen many tracks but have yet to actually see a cougar.
