WanAus 30 - Tranquil Lake Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

WanderingAus: The cache is gone, along with the Super Six fence it was hidden on, replaced by a nice new ColourBond fence. Couldn't quite last six years, so I'll free up the real estate for a more popular nano.

Geocache Description:

An easy find in a small suburban park.

When we chose our block around May 1986 the blurb issued by the then Land Corp stated:
......... " Overlooking a Tranquil Lake and Surrounded by Parkland ... ".

Anyone examining the map will realise that the release, comprising part of Wilkinson Street and part of Corfield Street Gosnells, is surrounded on the NorthEast side by Robinson Park, and further on the NorthEast side by Mary Carroll Park. If Custer had been surrounded by Indians as badly as we were surround by parklands his troops might have all escaped. Over a decade later William Lane Park 1.5 Km away came to surround us on the SouthWest side.

Ours was the first slab to go down in the release, and we had terrific views of the Tranquil Lake until just before Walls Plate High, and still had a partial view until the week after Lockup Stage. Of course the Tranquil Lake was really only the result of draining the swamp and creating a compensating basin, but it certainly held promise for the future.

I didn't set eyes on the Tranquil Lake again until I started walking as part of a rehab plan after a back injury about four years later, and as I recall it still didn't look very attractive, so when we started taking our first grandson Axcel for walks in 1997 we were surprised to discover a beautiful little park with a lake full of waterbirds, surrounded by a nice grassed area, and a nice little playground with a safety fence around it.

When I read of the demise of redback hideaway by rayozzy I immediately thought of replacing it in the park "overlooking the Tranquil Lake" just through the laneway from home, but then I thought of the 66 cachers (67 counting rayozzy) who would guess immediately where to look.

I've learnt a lot from some very clever hiders since I took up this game eight months ago, so I said to myself "Where would PBL or maybe PaddyK put a cache in this park, devoid as it is of my favourite 'Remnant Bushland' patch." Then I put it where someone else might have hidden it, but I can't remember which of three cachers I got the idea from.

I can say that the coordinates are very accurate, having been checked on both a Magellan Explorist 500 and a Magellan Sporttrak Map (brought out of retirement during a warranty repair on the Explorist).

The cache is a magnetic key case hidden in a different sort of spot. Please re-hide carefully when you are finished. Initial contents are First and Second To Find cards and log book. You will need to bring a scratching implement.
Update 30 Nov 08 - The cache is a 35mm film canister containing a log book only, hidden in a different sort of spot off the ground. Please re-hide carefully when you are finished using the leaf litter from the ground nearby. You will need to bring a scratching implement.

Update 19 Mar 09 - The cache is a magnetic key case, please re-hide carefully when you are finished. You will need to bring a scratching implement

Good for the adventurous wheelchair driver, sand is a bit soft in places.
