Naturschutzgebiet Desenberg
Die angegebenen Koordinaten führen Euch zu einem Parkplatz am Fuße des Desenbergs. Der Berg stellt die markanteste Erhebung in der Warbuger Börde dar, der die flache Umgebung um fast 150 Meter überragt.
Er ist Zeugnis des tertiären nordhessischen Vulkanismus. Der Aufprall der afrikanischen Platte auf Europa initiierte wohl damals die vulkanische Aktivität: die Erdkruste barst unter der ungeheuren Druckspannung und das vulkanische Szenario konnte beginnen. Der Desenberg ist wohl ein kleinerer effusiver Lavavulkan. Magma (geschmolzenes Gestein im Erdinneren), welches hier unterhalb der Erdoberfläche erstarrte, gelangte durch Erosion und Verwitterung im Laufe der Zeit an die Oberfläche. So ist dieses Gebiet heute kaum auf den ersten Blick als eine vulkanisch entstandene Landschaft zu erkennen.
Heute bieten die Hänge dieses steilen Berges mit ihren Magerrasen und Felsbiotopen einen vielfältigen Lebensraum für verschiedene Tiere wie Zauneidechse, Neuntöter und Schwalbenschwanz. In der jüngeren Vergangenheit wurde das Gebiet um den Desenberg unter Naturschutz gestellt.
Die auf dem Berg befindliche Burg wurde schon 766 zur Zeit der Sachsenkriege erwähnt. Nach einer wechselvollen Geschichte begann sie ab 1555 zu verfallen. Heutzutage ist die Ruine über einen im Jahr 2009 neu gestalteten Wanderweg frei zugänglich. Der besteigbare Turm bietet einen grandiosen Ausblick über die gesamte Warburger Börde.

Nature reserve Desenberg
The coordinates will lead you to the parking area at the bottom of the Desenberg. This hill is the most significant rise in the area called Warburger Börde which overtops the surrounding flat region about 150 meters.
This hill is an evidence of the tertiary hessian volcanism. The collision of the african and european tectonic plates initiated the volcanic activities: the compression of the earth's crust forms this small lava volcano. The magma (molten or partially molten rock beneath the earth's surface) became solid beneath the earth's surface. This hill was produced as a result of erosion and alteration over millions of years. In these days it is not obvious, that volcanic activities formed this landscape.
Today the mountain side provides a wildlife habitat for many animals like sand lizard, red-backed shrike and swallowtail. In the recent past this area was protected and is a nature reserve today.
On the top of the hill you will find the ruin of a castle, which was mentioned 766 at the time of the Saxony War. Since 1555 the castle declines. Today you can go to the ruin on a hiking trail, newly build in 2009 . If you have reached the top of the hill you will find a restored tower. Climb up and enjoy the terrific panoramic view over the area.
