Alla periferia nord-orientale di Cantù sul colle di Galliano, la Basilica di San Vincenzo e l'attiguo battistero ottagonale dedicato a San Giovanni sono ritenuti tra i più importanti edifici alto-medioevali della Lombardia. Il complesso edificato intorno all'XI secolo secondo schemi tardo antichi mostra evidenti influssi del primo periodo romanico. La chiesa fu consacrata nel 1007, ricostruita nelle strutture murarie e affrescata da Ariberto da Intimiano, arcivescovo di Milano.
Essa è il risultato di successive ristrutturazioni dove il tono rustico dell'ambiente non cancella la preziosità di alcuni particolari tra cui le finestrelle e le losanghe sul lato sinistro. Gli affreschi dell'abside raffiguranti il martirio di San Vincenzo, coevi o poco posteriori alla consacrazione, rappresentano le testimonianze figurative più antiche: qui la tradizione bizantina e ottoniana si dispiega in modo raffinato e severo per conformarsi, nelle scene con le storie dei Santi, alla funzionalità di tutto l’edificio. Anche le navate sono affrescate in tre registri sovrapposti con storie della Bibbia e della vita dei santi. Ci vorrebbero molte pagine per descrivere tutte le opere del complesso monumentale vi invito a visitarlo, è veramente interessante oltre che bello. Attenzione agli orari di apertura; orario invernale: dalle 9,30-12,00 dalle 15,00-17,00.Orario estivo; dalle 9,30-1200 dalle 15,00-18,00. Il lunedì è sempre chiuso.
