Geocache Description:

Located near Funtopia playground

When my children were small finding one of these creative, wonderful, wooden playgrounds was cause for celebration - and long and repeated visits. Playgrounds such as this provide a welcome diversion for both children and parents. We had friends who lived in Newport News VA and visits to their house were as anticipated as the trips to the nearby playground, which was very similar to Funtopia. My children are older now, but we did make a few trips to this playground when it was first constructed. More recently I took my granddaughter when she was visiting. She loved it - playing and interacting with other children, and of course the moms have an opportunity to chat as well. Nice days find many children happily playing here.

About Funtopia (from their web site):
"Building a community playground began as a dream for Michelle Jordan. Michelle had a goal of raising $150,000 which would net the community a 12,500 square foot playground.

The playground process and funding took a year and a half. Children were involved from the conception to the construction. Mrs. Henson's fourth grade class of 2002 at Morningside Elementary School came up with the winning name, "Funtopia".

Funtopia was built in 5 glorious days - April 24 through April 28, 2002. Rain, mud, cold, and a threat of a tornado did not stop the enthusiasm our community felt in building Funtopia.

Funtopia has a ripple effect in our community. When you see the excitement in a child's eye and the laughter in their voice at play, you know it's a good thing!

Funtopia has two separate play areas: one for children 2 to 5 years of age and another for children 5 to 12 years of age."

Cache is a small container with a log book and room for a few small items. Please bring your own writing instrument. Cache is located near, but not on the playground. Cache site is visible from the playground, so stealth may be required.
