Get your kicks and your caches on Route 66. We've enjoyed finding caches along other old stretches of the old highway. Our series is a joint effort to place caches on a stretch of Historic Route 66 in Southwest Missouri between Halltown and Carthage. This cache is a Park and HIKE. The Talbot Conservation Area covers a few thousand acres, in Lawrence County, Missouri. This cache is a medium pill bottle.
Some may argue that this cache is not on Route 66, and you are correct. However, its such a nice area that we have included it and its only a mile off of Route 66 for a nice diversion. Just go a mile south on Route 97 to the Talbot Camp area. In the back of the campground there is a Horse Trail. Just follow your gps about 400 feet following obvious hiking trails. The cache itself is only about 12 or 15 feet from the trail. When the cache was hidden in December, there was no concern about ticks, chiggers and poison ivy. But assuming that it survives to summer, any/all of those may be a concern. Please note, the cache is hidden on the conservation area, NOT in a parking lot. You will find an obvious parking area where you can leave your cachemoblie. We had GPS issues with tree cover in December, so that may become a greater issue in the summer. In that event, this one should test your geosenses.
The First to Find will find a gold Sacajawea - yes, its real money. Otherwise the cache contains a log and pencil stub.
