Congratulations, you're looking at one of the oldest caches in the state, in place since 2001. Since then, only about 50 people have made the trek to locate the cache. Why so few?
We found the biggest darn lava bed around and placed an ammo can in the middle of it. Just to make it a bit of a challenge, we painted the ammo can brown to match the lava, and took a bit of a scrambling hike to a hilly area. The cache is under an outcrop, is plainly visible but tucked in a hole, and visible only from a certain direction.
This hike is not handicap accessible. You need good shoes, good balance, gloves are smart, go with a friend. Beware of loose rock and places to fall. It's a dang lava bed, already! You won't make record time.
If it makes you feel better, we placed it in the middle of a thunderstorm with rain, hail, and a tiny bit of snow.
Oh, the dirt road in... Not great in a passenger car at all. And not so good after a good rain.
And to anyone who tries this in winter -- GOOD LUCK.
This isn't an easy one to find, especially because my GPS was bobbing around 659-660 N and 574-573-576 W. Took the best ones after sitting in a lightning storm for 5 minutes.
