This is the second in a series of 6 caches. The
first 5 are dedicated to those Famous People who
have totally butchered and/or mangled the Star Spangled Banner
while attempting to sing it in front of a large audience and the
6th BONUS cache is dedicated to those who have
actually sung renditions that have given it respect and honor to
our country or they're just plain good versions that we don't mind
listening to.
We might have a little more pity for
Olympic sprinting champ Carl Lewis at a 1993 basketball game
between the New York Nets and Chicago Bulls. Lewis seemed to
struggle harder trying to reach the high notes that day than he did
in winning his nine gold medals.
Midway through, Lewis paused to apologize to the crowd, saying,
"I'm going to make up for it." But it got no better, and when the
TV camera panned to Michael Jordan, he was laughing
derisively.
Athletes might just want to stay away from the microphone. In 2004,
Dallas Mavericks star Jerry Stackhouse received a rousing ovation
when he did the honors at one game. But the good feeling ended when
the game began, he was ejected on two technical fouls for arguing
with officials. At least the Mavs beat the Celtics that night.
Don't Forget The Lyrics series is a staged series
of caches along the Equestrian Trail at the 189 acre Bear Creek
Nature Preserve in Lancaster, Texas. The Equestrian Trail is a 2
mile loop along relatively flat ground on a wide, well maintained
trail. There is a low water crossing near the beginning of the
loop, but should offer no real problems unless there have been
heavy, recent rains.
The DTFL series is a maze of 28 physical caches of
which only 6 are the actual finals to the game. Your challenge is
to complete the missing lyrics at each stage in
order to advance to the next. The songs are all based on television
theme songs. It is possible to only find just the 6 stages if you
get each answer correct. If not, you will find yourself having to
seek out multiple sub-caches, where wrong answers lead to dead
ends, but right answers keep you moving toward the next cache.
You can park in the Equestrian Parking area, but in the event it is
closed, it's still just a short walk across an open meadow from the
paved parking area in the main section. The park sign says it
closes at 5PM, so leave yourself plenty of time.
All 6 stages are ammo cans. Choose the right
answer and you will be directed to the next ammo can. Choose a
wrong answer and you will be directed to a smaller container with
either another missing lyric or a Dead End sign. Smaller containers
are all decon boxes or pill sized ointment jars.
