Geocache Description:

broken tree limb

On the night of October 20, 2007, a significant "Santa Ana" wind event occurred in Southern California. As you see here in Point Mugu State Park, along the Wood Canyon fire road, limbs of significant size were broken down by the powerful winds. I was told by my MTB buddies that there was a tree across the Wood Canyon road which they had to portage across. I thought to myself "that might be a fun place for a cache, and I'll use 'Santa Ana' in the cache name" - but the following weekend when I rode through it had been cleaned up and with all the other debris blown out on the trails, I couldn't even figure out where it might have been!

Updated 10-13-2013

The Camarillo Springs Fire completely erased any evidence of the Santa Ana winds from 2007 (and most other organic things). The cache container survived, although the 'Artifact' pictured above and all of the cache contents were reduced to ash. The original cache container (a cammo'ed 'TrailsEnd' carmelcorn tin, somewhat the worse for wear) is back in a new "10-20". and the coordinates have been updated.
