On trouve habituellement les étangs dans
la plaine argileuse de la Woëvre, en raison du sol imperméable qui
évite les infiltrations, et des zones humides où convergent les
ruisseaux. C'est plus rare de rencontrer des étangs perchés au
sommet des Côtes, sur un substrat de calcaire donc perméable.
Il s'agit d'une exception, mais elle n'est pas la seule car les
petits plans d'eau sont fréquents sur les Côtes: Maurice Genevoix a
beaucoup parlé de la boue argileuse des Eparges, ce n'est pas par
hasard.
Creusés par les moines, puis les américains, ils apportaient jadis
le poisson nécessaire pour satisfaire à la règle du clergé.
Merci de bien refermer la
boîte aux 4 coins, de bien la recacher et si possible de loguer
votre visite aussi en anglais.
Une fois la cache trouvée, vous pouvez continuer le tour de cet
étang. Le chemin est parfois peu dégagé ou coupé par des arbres
tombés mais c'est faisable :)
Important:
1/ La forêt est chassée certains jours en automne/hiver. Ne prenez
pas de risques, respectez les signalisations.
2/ Au printemps/été il y a des après-midi "guinguette" et l'entrée
par le parking est alors payante. Pour l'éviter, utilisez le
parking 2 à l'entrée du chemin en grève.
One usually finds the ponds in the
clayey plain of "La Woëvre", because of the impervious soil that

2 / During spring / summer there is "guinguette" afternoon and the
entry by the parking is sometimes not free. To avoid it, use the
parking 2 at the entry of the white path.
