Geocache Description:

On top of Foel Gynnyd, near highest point.
[23/06/14: Visited cache again this sunny day, with a new cache container, as the seal-flaps on the original lid had deteriorated. Also took secateurs and clipped back a few branches on the way down.
My sister Anne came up with me, and commented how much more overgrown it all has become since she was last up here in the 1950's/60's.

From Dolwyddelan, go up Allt Singrug (Capel Curig Path, or Sarn Offeiriad) to where this track joins the Forestry road. Turn right, passing the barrier gate. You will see a solitary Scots Pine at the base of the hill on your left (Foel Gynnyd). Scramble up to this tree, then move a dozen paces to the right and ascend a somewhat disused path to the summit.
[This approach from the Western side of Foel Gynnyd is the only safe & easy route. There are cliffs on the North, South & East sides of the hill - keep an eye on your small children when at the top!]
This was a favourite childhood spot, and I was hoping that more visitors would make the pathway more obvious. However, when the bracken is high, nearly all paths get obliterated!
Terrain & Difficulty uprated to 3 on basis of seekers' comments. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS ONLY ONE SAFE ROUTE UP FOEL GYNYDD.
Please do not disturb the Rhododendron bush more than you can help - the cache is not there, but the spot commemorates Ellis P Willams (obit. 1967 and his beloved wife (obit 2001) who lived at Tan-y-Griag, Pont-y-Pant.
In addition to the traditional cache, why not make this memorial a Mystery cache and e-mail his wife's name to me? But please treat the site with respect (I assume the bush was planted in 1967?). Please do not remove the laminated photograph from behind the plaque
The hill is well worth the climb, just for the views of Dolwyddelan, Cwm Penamnen, Dolwyddelan Castle, the Crimea Pass, Moel Siabod, etc.
Cache (Tesco Food Container) Original contents: Log book & Pencil, Smiley hopper, Hanging Santa, Santa Keyring, Wales Prayer Week Keyring, Water Pistol, Crayons, Children in Need Teddy.
